Wildflower n' Oats Cleansing Grains
Wildflower n' Oats Cleansing Grains – A lovely DIY for Soft, and Calm Skin
If you're looking for a gentle and exfoliating face scrub that feels like a self-care pampering treat, then this Wildflower n' Oats Cleansing Grains recipe is for you. Made with soothing oats, wildflowers, a touch of milk powder, this blend is ideal for anyone wanting to explore natural skincare for sensitive skin (without diving into a complicated product line).
This is part of my education first approach to herbal homemade(s) | You will find the full recipe below. If you’re not ready to make it yourself or don’t want to pay for all the ingredients: I will offer a (LIMITED) mini tester from my shop for you to try before you DIY.
A disclaimer: there is only a limited number of testers available. This is to give the opportunity to customize your own products at home (hopefully) without over-complicating the ingredients & recipes. I try to offer variations for you to test out and truly make the recipe your own! We are all for sustainability and education here, NOT for gatekeeping product formulations. If you want to know percentages and ratios please see the tiny tester page as I will keep this open even after all testers are sold!
So…..What Are Cleansing Grains?
Cleansing grains = a dry, powdered cleanser that you activate with water (or tea, honey, even yogurt). They’re a beautiful alternative to liquid face washes or potentially damaging and really quite rough sugar scrubs. They are especially great if you love herbal skincare and slow rituals. The act of creating this at home in itself is a creative and grounding activity.
Unlike many exfoliates, this blend is:
Non-stripping
Customizable
Shelf-stable (as long as you AVOID adding water directly to the jar and keep herbs in cool dry space) to prevent spoilage
Completely natural and partially wild-crafted

Ingredients (& Why They Matter)
This blend is formulated with purpose:
Organic Rolled Oats (55g) | Soothes irritation, gently exfoliate, calm inflammation
Dried Rose Petals (15g) | mildly astringent, mildly cooling, adds softness, aromatic, toning
Hibiscus Petals (10g) | rich in natural AHAs, brightening (skin tone)
Wild Raspberry Leaf (5g) | skin-toning, rich in antioxidants, astringent (can help tighten pores and control oil production)
Chamomile (5g) – anti-inflammatory, calming
Milk Powder w/ Vitamins ~ Optional ~ (1 tsp) | gentle lactic acid; nourishes & exfoliates
A few drops of Lavender Essential Oil (optional) |antimicrobial, aromatic & grounding
How to Make It
You’ll need:
A spice grinder or blender. I really enjoy this blender from Walmart, it has been quite trusty throughout the "torture” I put it through daily. The attachments are also lovely for when you’re on the go! You never know when you might need a blender right?
Airtight jar (tip: don’t make too much if you are trying for the first time and always do skin-patch test)
A bowl + spoon
To Blend:
Grind dry ingredients in a clean coffee grinder or high-speed blender until powdery. Sift if desired. Add milk powder and lavender oil last and do a quick final spritz to mix everything well. Store in a jar away from sunlight for 6-9 months depending on your home environment.
How to Use Cleansing Grains
Pour 1 tsp of the powder into your palm or a clean bowl
Add water or skin-safe liquid such as rose water, herbal tea, honey, etc.
Mix into a paste
Gently massage onto damp skin for 30–60 seconds
Rinse with warm water and pat dry
Use 2–3x per week as part of your cleansing or masking ritual.
