Detoxing ~ When does it make sense?

Detox products are absolutely everywhere. In teas, powders, pills, cleanses with a promise to flush out “toxins,” reset your body, or cure everything from brain fog to belly bloat. But how much of it is real, and how much is just smart marketing?

Let’s break down what detoxing actually means, when it’s useful, and how to avoid getting scammed. If you are more of a visual learner watch my video seen below!

1. Your Body Is Already Detoxing
You don’t need a fancy supplement for detoxing to happen—your liver, kidneys, gut, skin, and lungs are handling it 24/7.
Unless you’ve been poisoned or are withdrawing from drugs, your body probably doesn’t need a long term expensive “cleanse.”

I encourage you to check out my YouTube Video on Detoxing for a better visual of the body process.

2. When Detox Support Might Make Sense

  • You know you have had mold or chemical exposure

  • You’ve been on heavy medications

  • You’re addressing gut, liver, or metabolic health with a trusted professional

  • You’re cleaning up your diet and want to support digestion and elimination (think fiber, hydration, movement—not magic pills)

3. How Detox Scams Hook You
Here are a few red flags to watch for:

  • Vague fear tactics: “You’re full of toxins!” (But no mention of which ones.)

  • Overpromising: “Lose 10 lbs in a week,” “Cure brain fog overnight.”

  • Testimonial overload: Personal stories are fine, but they’re not proof.

  • Science-y language with no real science: “Supports detox pathways” with zero citations.

  • Push for urgency: “Limited supply,” “Cleanse now before it’s too late.”

4. Questions to Ask Before Buying a Detox Product

  • What problem is this solving for me, really?

  • Are any actual toxins named or explained?

  • Is there real science backing this, or just hype?

  • Can I get similar or better results by improving sleep, diet, or stress levels?

  • Have I spoken to a healthcare professional?

5. The Mold & Toxin Fear Loop
Yes, mold and toxins are real concerns—but not everything requires a 12-step protocol or $300 in supplements.
If you think you’ve been exposed:

Your body already knows how to detox:most of the time, it just needs you to get out of the way and support it naturally. Products aren’t automatically bad, but marketing often is.

Stay curious, ask questions, and don’t assume wellness comes in a bottle.
